Retro Myrtle Beach Guy is no stranger to unconventional movie making techniques and concepts and Mint Jelly will be no different says the director! "I find that modern Hollywood is far more interested in impressing their peers and searching out technical ways to win awards and not thinking about audiences and whether they find something entertaining. People don't go to the movies to see the latest CGI or green screen techniques. Only movie nerds, like me care about that stuff, but it's gotten way too easy. Soon you'll be punching spiderman vs the hulk on the titanic 6 into an AI robot and it will look as good as anything they're putting out anyhow!".

The sophomore filmmaker says he's disenchanted with modern movies and their endless rehashes. "If I see ONE more 'meet the teenage mutant turtles' movie or 'how did he BECOME batman' rehashing of the same story time after time, I think we're getting another Fantastic 4 soon, gee I wonder HOW they became the Fantastic 4! I sure can't wait to find out!" Retro joked, "and the Turtles are mutants NOT aliens for pete's sake! it's IN THE NAME!".

Besides thinking outside the box with storylines, Retro is not interested in fitting into mainstream boxes. "First of all, I don't think it's any secret that I am shooting the whole film on my iPhone. Editing it on my phone which is unconventional enough. The whole project is in my pocket right now!" he said "we also already committed to making Mint Jelly using ONLY practical effects which is unheard of for any movie these days, but has been unconventional in an alien-based sci-fi for at least 40 years."

The director is also not interested in being confined to time constraints,
"Haven't you ever sat through a modern 90 minute film and thought to yourself 'this thing is about 15 minutes too long'? Our last movie, Retro Myrtle Beach Guy: The Movie has a 39 minute run time and the festivals didn't know WHAT to do with it!" the director joked "some of the festivals had us categorized as a feature, some had it as a short film, meanwhile it was exactly as long as the story needed to be.
He continued" If there was more to say the movie could have been three hours long or 20 minutes. I just hate when they fill time just to fill time. Folks' time and money is valuable especially these days! if you're gonna be charging a family $140 to go to the movies and eat popcorn, I just can't imagine showing them fluff scenes that only existed to fit a 90 minute run time. It's like when radio decided all songs had to be three minutes and however many seconds and now all music is three minutes and whatever. Hitchcock could fit more story telling into 10 minutes of his show than most of these movies pack into 90 minutes or 120 minutes anyhow making art to fit a time slot is silly, when the story's over, we;ll stop.."
